London Gay Symphony Orchestra

Iwona Boesche, leaderIwona Boesche

Before coming to London in 1996, Iwona trained in her native Poland, where she won the Yamaha Scholarship awarded to the best violin student in Poland, and a scholarship awarded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and Arts.

She collaborated for seven years with the eminent violinist Kaja Danczowska at the Academy of Music in Krakow - from which she graduated with Distinction – first as a student, then later as Assistant Professor.

She went on to study at the Royal College of Music with Grigori Zhislin and Dona Lee Croft. Whilst there, she won several awards including the Ian Stoutzker and Wollman Prizes. She now teaches violin at the College’s junior department, and since September 2005 has taught at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Iwona won prizes in international violin competitions in Warsaw in 1995 and Mexico in 1997.

Whilst leader of the Krakow Radio Symphony Orchestra in the mid-90s, she performed with Luciano Pavarotti in Peru.

Iwona’s wide repertoire extends from the baroque to contemporary - including premieres of British and Polish works - as well as standard jazz repertoire.

In demand as a concerto and recital soloist and chamber musician, she has performed in most of Europe as well as America, Australia, the Middle East and South America.

Iwona is a regular first violin with the City of London Sinfonia.

She has recently completed a series of recitals in London and New York with regular collaborator, Jan Rautio (piano), and the two are currently preparing the release of their CD comprising John Adams’ Road Movies and Prokofiev’s two violin sonatas.

Iwona attended her first LGSO concert back in 2002, and is delighted to be Guest Leader for this concert.
